Wood Shell|Glass Box

Wood Shell|Glass Box

Project:

#0515 - Renovation - Residential

Location:

McCreary, Manitoba

Completion:

2006

The mission of this project was to transform the three-bedroom/two-bathroom floor area of a conventional mid-80’s bungalow residence into a luxurious 1 bedroom master suite for this empty nest couple.  After clearing the space back to the bare studs, the first move was to position the shower and double sink space at the centre of the plan and enclose it in glass.  This ’island’ spa then divides the sleeping area from the laundry and toilets areas.  Dressing occurs in a zone defined by a low wall that back stops the bed.  A new corner glass bay pulls the view out into the landscape while creating a light-filled window seat for lounging.

In the back yard, a new deck and hot tub area adjoins the house while utilizing existing landscape elements in the composition.  A barbecue zone is defined and separated from the neighbour by a light trellis and storage structure.
